The ASM Cleveland Chapter proudly presents Awards Night & Trustee Visit, taking place on Monday, May 18^th, 2026, at the ASM International Headquarters and Geodesic Dome.

This memorable evening honors excellence within the materials community and features a distinguished trustee address, an inspiring keynote presentation, and meaningful networking opportunities. Guests will enjoy an Indian buffet-style dinner, with vegetarian & vegan selections available.

🗣️ SPEAKER:

Prof. Hanchen Huang, FASM is a member of the Board of Trustees of the ASM International, and is currently the Dean of Engineering, Architecture and Technology at Oklahoma State University and the Don and Cathey Humphreys Chair Professor. He has been the Lupe Murchison Foundation Endowed Chair Professor at the University of North Texas, Donald W. Smith Professor at Northeastern University, Connecticut Clean Energy Fund Endowed Professor at the University of Connecticut, and Professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. As an academic leader, he has been the department chair of mechanical and industrial engineering at Northeastern University, dean of engineering at the University of North Texas, and provost at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. In professional societies, he is an elected Fellow of the American Society for Materials (ASM), American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and Society of Engineering Science (SES).

📣 TITLE: Metallic Glue: Science, Technology & Commercialization 

🗒️ ABSTRACT:

As engineers, we conduct scientific researches with the aim of technological and societal impacts. Taking metallic glue as an example, this presentation covers the three aspects of such engineering researches: scientific discoveries, technological developments, and commercialization. Accompanying the interplay of these three aspects is that of sponsoring agencies such as NSF and DOE Office of Basic Energy Sciences, NSF Innovation Corps and tech industries, and customers and investors.

The scientific discoveries of metallic glue include the new diffusion kinetics responsible for nanorod growth, new theories of nanorod growth in two modes and for their transitions, experimental realization of small and well-separated nanorods. The developed technologies include a high-quality and pricy metallic glue that is based on the small and well-separated metallic nanorods, and a lower-quality and more economic metallic glue that is based on nano particles/fibers and eutectic alloys.

• 5:15 PM to 6:30 PM – Networking begins followed by drinks & food (Indian Cuisine Vegetarian food from Honest Parma – *Catering subject to change),
• 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM – Presentation, awards and program activities ends.
