Since then, the use of cryogenic and sub-zero treatments during conventional heat-treating processes has continued to play an important role in maximizing wear resistance and dimensional stability in high alloy, tool and stainless-steel grades. We'll explore the benefits of cryogenic heat treatment, common applications, metallurgical effects of cryogenic treatments, and important processing considerations when implementing cryogenic treatments to existing thermal processing.BiographyGreg is the Plant Metallurgist at Solar Atmospheres of Western Pennsylvania (SAWPA). As Plant Metallurgist, Greg oversees the metallography testing labs while providing technical support to the Production, Quality, and Sales departments.Greg is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering with a focus on ferrous metallurgy.Prior to joining SAWPA, Greg developed extensive metallurgical experience from his time with A&T Stainless (Allegheny Technologies Inc.), AK Steel, and the Ellwood Group Inc. where he functioned in various product and process metallurgical roles.
