Thank you, too, Patricia and all for the good work to get our committee going.  Just so you know, this afternoon I attended the ASM Chapter Council meeting and mentioned our efforts on Archaeometallurgy.  They were very excited to hear of our progress and they will be very supportive when we get ready to submit our paperwork for approval.  If we are successful as a committee the next step may be to become an affiliate society of ASM; but that is, I think, way down the road yet!

Let's keep the momentum going forward.

    Dear Patricia,
It was good to meet you and the others this afternoon for a very useful meeting. I have quite a few thoughts which I will put together over the next few days.
For now, the more I think about it, the idea of Metallurgical Heritage as a title really appeals as being the most inclusive.
One of my biggest concerns is to increase the understanding of metallurgy in archaeology and conservation. The use of the term archaeometallurgy has caused people who work in the field to see it as a separate subject and that mainstream metallurgy is something else and more science than they need. They are so wrong and there is so much knowledge and so many informative characterisation techniques that would enhance their results, and we must demonstrate what can be done.
At the risk of promoting myself, the following link from November's Nautical Archaeology Society Conference gives an example of combining archaeology, documents, and big machines (neutron diffraction).
I am the world's worst proofreader so apologies for any typographical errors.
I look forward to next month's meeting.
    All the best,
    Peter

I need time to dedicate to see the Video. Now Iam with not so much time.
Particularly I like the name you said and its something important and for to whom feel passionate about these studies and researching to find a place with us, a good place with harmony and where members could feel as their home, do you understand?
I have to write you for about the parragraph in HMS Magazine about our societies interchange. Sure tomortow I will do.

I was so pleased to be with you in the meeting and thank you very much for your constructive discussions. I couldn't to stay until the end of the meeting and I apologize again.

The document is going to be very good based on the comments and revisions and I hope we would be successful to present it to ASM and be an official  committee.

Take care and stay in health!

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

It was a pleasure to have our discussion and I hope going forward we can continue the momentum that Patricia has injected into this group.

I know that Peter discussed sample preparation so I thought he and anyone else might be interested in this seminar that is coming up from Struers:
    https://www.anpdm.com/newsletterweb/474358457743435E4674434559/434A5B477940425B42744344584271

As discussed, I'm more than happy to stand as a digital support assistant David S helping with online polls, social media or the like and do not mind taking up the initial task of Secretary if that is required - I think David V said it was optional at this stage.

    Best regards,

    James

    Dear All,

Many thanks, James. I too have had the same email from Struers. They can be very helpful but they are more aimed at industrial production runs and industrial size samples. In our world samples are often small, and heterogeneous with corrosion and inclusions. I have thought in the past about producing a training video for the archaeometallurgy world . something I can actually do at home. We have the video experience form making and uploading online services for church. I had also thought of getting Struers, or MetPrep which is a UK supplier of consumables (affordable and no minimum order charge). to sponsor it. It should be feasible, actually, to do it at MetPrep's applications lab which is about an hour away from me. Perhaps this is something we can talk about next month, and aspects like sharing it between ASM and HMS

    Best wishes,
    Peter

    Peter,

I would prefer that those who do not have a notion about metallurgy and metallographic analysis, if they want to do a course, do so.

Even though I wanted to do archeometallurgy, my former head of the metallurgy laboratory at the university put me first to study metallurgy and metallographic analysis in industrial parts, and then to dedicate myself to aqueomealurgy and I am really very grateful to have made that path.

A Struers course or another organized by ASM, that the proffessor offered under my pic of winner ot the Viewers Choice 2020 winning photo on Linkedin are positive.

There are specific things to do between the two societies, so let's not lose focus, the book, manual or guide would be very important, and we could start with those of the members who want to participate in this and go on putting together small chapters and reviewing each other. .

Although once each chapter is finished we can upload it here and share it with all the members of this group. Finally, when we are a Formal Committee and we can also get sponsors, we could specify the work in the chapters and turn them into a good book, manual or guide between both HMS and Archaeometallurgy ASM Committee , What you think?

P.S.: Yesterday I added your YouTube video to our Library here!

    Cheers, -

    Peter,

I think a discussion of archeometallurgical techniques and how they may differ from industrial characterization techniques would be an interesting talk.  Would you be interested in doing something like that for a Chapter technical meeting?

    David,

We have to work on the things we will do together with the other Society, the Manual or guide is one and we have to put efforts on this, and better if we connect more between each other.

Or to avoid the manual or guide, because we cannot do all, we have to decide what will be the concrete actions for this relantionship between HMS and ASM to give birth during the time of the interchange, Concrete Actions. The Book was one proposed by Peter also  and I listened  to him

Thank you too James for your ideas, contributions!!

Thanks for your appreciation of my passionate work here!!

Yes, a link to social media would be interesting, and if you like you could be our Secretary, if now is not a rule, but then when we turn into a Formal Committee, we will need one.

There is a course also, "Metallurgy for non Metallurgist" ,the link is on Linkedin, someone offered this in a comment, when I won the more interesting post of 2020 on the ASM Connect.
