    Archaeometallurgy Community:

I am attaching two documents from Dr. Russell Wanhill.

One document is a lecture course by Russell Wanhill entitled: Metallurgy, Embrittlement and Conservation of Ancient Silver.

The other attachment is a presentation by Russell Wanhill and Omid Oudbashi entitled: Fractography of Ancient Metal Artifacts and Restoration and Conservation.
Below is a brief introduction for this.

The fractographic analysis of ancient metallic artifacts is a minor or non-existent consideration for most archaeometallurgical investigations. However, fractures and cracks owing to ancient artifact weaknesses are, or should be, important for restorers and conservators. This presentation discusses several case studies to aid the appreciation of fractography as a diagnostic technique, and also the importance of cracking. These case histories concern ancient gold and silver alloys, bronzes, and wrought irons.
