Hello David!
You are very welcome to join!!
This field is what led me to study metallurgy too! Because of my background, I am a Chemical Engineer, I use my knowledge to these studies and apply there because metallurgy and this historical studies of metals are my real passion!
It is nice to find more people with the same passion for this field!!
I don't know how to create an online community, that could have the potential to become a Committee in the near future! Helping hands are very welcome!
I will do the time to join and listen to your presentation! Sure will be so interesting! Thanks for sharing!
I will be on the next Profile of Women in Engineering, AM&P Magazine, there you could know more about me and I am very happy for this opportunity to ASM International!

Subject: ASM Community on Archaeometallurgy - Interest in forming a community
I would love to be involved in an archeometallurgy community! The history of metals is one of the fields that pushed me towards metallurgy as a child and I have continued to study it on the side. Do you have any ideas to get the community started?
For those who are interested, I will be giving a virtual talk called "Reverse Engineering of Historical Swords" on Tuesday Sept 22 for the Eastern Virginia Chapter, and all are welcome to join (link below). I believe we plan to record it, so if you miss the live talk, please contact me and I will try to get you a copy.

Subject: ASM Community on Archaeometallurgy - Interest in forming a community
I would like to gauge the level interest in forming an ASM Community on Archaeometallurgy:
In this I want to present what is called Archaeometallurgy, also known as Historical Metallurgy but recently it has been called: Reverse Engineering, which is very important since it means that this line of research in ancient and heritage metals is part of and is recognized within of Engineering and Engineers.
Obviously, these studies and heritage works must be carried out by interdisciplinary teams led by engineers and made up of professionals of different profiles and professions related to materials, conservation, metallurgy, restorers, architects, archaeologists, and even those related to the art. As engineers, we are called to occupy these places and encourage ourselves, since it is a research niche, and thanks to the development of sophisticated types of laboratory equipment, it is increasingly essential that engineers participate and be interested because we are the ones who can understand and read the messages that the historical pieces try to communicate to us. This line of research is exciting, and it is what I do most and it is what has led me to study and dedicate myself to metallurgy and the analysis of metal parts, etc.
I hope this starts a discussion and becomes a place to share ideas, questions and interest in knowing, sharing experiences, sharing solutions, maybe some of you had the opportunity to meet millennial metals that made you curious ... and since life can take us through different paths and perhaps now this is your chance!
You can also generate content on conservation tasks since now the pieces of museums, private collections, monuments and everything that is of heritage importance have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus and it is important to discuss cleaning and conservation methods, since they are vital as prevention methods.
Please comment below with interest and experiences to determine if a community within ASM CONNECT would be beneficial.
