Should we share job opportunities that get sent to us? What things are suitable for the community boards? You decide!

I quite often get sent information on vacancies in the Metallurgy community.  I know there are official paths, but it seems to me it's to all of our benefit as a community to share information.  Not professionally (no commission) and not habitually (limit on how often?).
My question to you is - should this be a valuable benefit to being part of the community, or banned from these boards to force "paid for" avenues?

Below is the most recent I have, for reference. I guess it would be good to hear from the administration what is allowed, and from the community what is wanted!

"Looking for a three Plant Metallurgist focused in metal joining solutions, located near Milwaukee, Wisconsin (would be open to candidates who want to relocate)– someone with experience in metal manufacturing or Metallurgy processes

In this position you would work with cross functional teams and directly with customers to fulfil quotes, help supervise chemical laboratory staff, develop alloy specifications, raw material purchase material specifications, project management, and drive continuous improvements across site, etc.

This company works 10 hour days Monday-Thursday, and if there is work needed for Friday's it can be done WFH, but they try to make it a Mon-Thurs work weeks. They are closed from Christmas-New Years each year for a plant shut down.

Salary range is 80-100K – open on years of experience

This company has been EXPANDING during the pandemic due to what they manufacturer, very well established and looking to bring on three more individuals due to their recent growth!

I do also but as I am now in a permanent full-time materials position I am not considering any of them.  I get a fair amount of temporary assignments 6 and 12 months mostly that I'd love to post for someone who has the necessary skillset.

Is this a possibility or does it violate any rules?

Good question Mike... I know that we definitely have "paid" routes even for ASM. I think if it is a direct opportunity, it is ok to post. For indirect opportunities, I believe we should force them down the paid channel. No idea how to police such activity. Just my humble opinion :-) jim

Personally, if I get approached by a recruiter when I'm not looking for a job but I know someone that is, I'll reach out to that person and ask if they'd like me to recommend them to the recruiter for the position. If they're interested, then I'll put them in contact and let them take it from there. In my opinion it's a win-win because I'm not going around the recruiter (so they still get their commission), I'm helping a colleague, and I'm building good karma which may benefit me down the road. However, this is more of a retail approach (one or two people in my network) than wholesale (the entire ASM Connect community).

In this case, I would be interested to get the input of an admin from the "ASM CareerHub" side - since ASM already has a platform for this, that may be a better place for it. I think of this forum as more for asking technical questions and advertising events like webinars. If ASM is ok with expanding the scope of the forum to include job opportunities then that's up to them but it would constitute a change in scope for sure.

Your post has brought up an important community conversation -

The rules & etiquette for the ASM CONNECT community state: "Connect messages should not contain promotional material, special offers, job offers or opportunities, product announcements, or solicitation for services. ASM INTERNATIONAL reserves the right to remove such messages and potentially ban sources of those solicitations."

Jobs should be posted through the ASM Career Hub.

If have job specifications, you can look for qualified candidates by searching the ASM CONNECT Member Directory.

    Hope that brings some clarity.

Thanks for the clarification, Carrie - it is a good reminder to read the rules!
The reason I asked the question was in regards to being sent opportunities rather than posting for ones own company.
So the correct thing would be to advise the sender about the career hub Available Offers | ASM International CareerHub

    @Michael Keeble @James Ritchey @Sean Piper @Rob Bielas @Nilesh Pandya

I find this conversation fascinating because I believe that ASM should support the members regarding what they need.  At at time when I lost my job, I was able to find a new opportunity quickly through ASM contacts.  I believe it's a very important function of the society.

Career Hub seems to be a "formal job board", whereas I would prefer to have an informal channel to discuss job opportunities and organically network with people.  A place to pre-screen and talk about what's going on in the job market will be welcome.

Another areas that would be very useful would be for early career opportunities.  Many college and Materials Advantage students are looking for these opportunities but have difficulty breaking through the electronic HR systems.  I think ASM increasing the liquidity of these opportunities would have great potential.

@Carrie Hawk Is there any way to support these sort of informal activities?

    Thanks,
    Dan

Dan... I tend to agree. Obviously, we want to support our existing infrastructure for external company opportunities and references via the Careerhub, but I do think using the social network piece for personal job discussions and even opportunities directly within our organizations is an "ok topic". jim

I am all for networking and believe one of the functions of a professional society should be such.  If this forum is not going to be suitable for such regarding personally shared job opportunities, then maybe a forum such as LinkedIn is more suitable.  I agree that the company posted job listings should go through the ASM job site.

The job board seems to be an "Employment Application Portal".  It would be nice to have more informal and off-the-record job discussion somewhere, so that more support can be made to help people through the process when there's a potential for a good fit.

For example, the job board has very few entry level positions.  It would be great to support early career and college members to find those opportunities.
