About Our Speaker:

Dr. Tyler Hudson joined the Advanced Materials and Processing Branch (D307) as a Research Materials Engineer on March 5, 2018. Tyler began his research at NASA Langley Research Center in May 2014. He worked as a Graduate Research Assistant as part of the graduate education program at the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA). He earned a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from North Carolina State University in December 2017 under the direction of Dr. Fuh-Gwo Yuan. From December 2017 to March 2018, he worked as a Research Engineer at NIA.

Tyler’s research has focused on the manufacturing, processing, structural health monitoring, and nondestructive evaluation of advanced aerospace composite structures. He has worked on the Advanced Composites Project, Technical Challenge 3 (Efficient Manufacturing Process Development), Task 6 (Laminate Cure Defects Process Model Development). He has specifically focused on the development and testing of guided wave-based systems for real-time cure monitoring of composites using high temperature piezoelectric transducers, fiber Bragg gratings, and phase-shifted fiber Bragg gratings.

Tyler is an active member in American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and NASA Langley Emerging and Advancing Professionals (LEAP). He has served as vice-chair of NIA’s student chapter of AIAA and on the advisory board for LEAP. He currently serves as the treasurer of the Hampton Roads Section of AIAA.
