About the Presentation:

Dr. Robert B. Pond, Jr.
Loyola University Maryland (retired)

The applications of 3-D printing have quickly extended beyond polymeric and organic materials to metallics and composites.  The ability to design in computer space and apply digital models in manufacturing provides unique products with some potential problems and costs.  The future appears bright for metallic additive manufacturing.  Many of the physical properties of these MAM components may be understood by classical metallurgy.  This lecture will examine applications, opportunities, challenges, and metallurgy of additive manufacturing with metals.

While this presentation is aimed at students, it should be of interest to everyone.  You are welcome to attend, and feel free to bring your son or daughter or pass this information along to the teachers at your children's schools.

About Our Speaker:

Dr. Robert Pond, Jr. has extensive education and experience in materials and metallurgical engineering fields.  He has worked in research and industrial laboratories including the Ballistics Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground and the Baltimore Gas and Electric Co.  He has taught at the U. S. Naval Academy, Johns Hopkins University, and is a past Chair of Engineering at Loyola University Maryland and Senior Lecturer of Engineering.  He is currently retired, and working for peanuts.
