"Good afternoon EDFAS colleagues, ASM and EDFAS teams and EDFAS board
I am very glad to be virtually here today with so many motivated Failure Analysts. I send a lot of thanks to the EDFAS board for this 2020 EDFAS lifetime reward. It invites me to look back on my professional activities and to underline the importance of FA societies. Lessons learnt are very useful for the current and future FA community.
FA labs are not the core business of most of our companies and when we are with few colleagues, facing always renewed critical challenges in a limited amount of time, we simultaneously become investigator, scientist, fireman and more. Of course, we are doing our best, constantly improving our multidisciplinary knowledge, refining old techniques to adapt them to our specific business, benchmarking new one, defining the next investment to face technological evolutions (I started with transistors!), always looking to the future.
Can we do it alone? Obviously NOT!
Any analysis mistake or lack of consistent results can have disastrous consequences so we need a lot of help, clever pieces of advice, knowledge of techniques, tools and case studies... These come from the FA community, acting as a team for us, giving us access to a huge virtual library dedicated to FA based on knowledge and practices of thousands of Failure Analysts. This is not a one way process, what we get from others is also what we give to others. Sharing experiences, knowledge, benchmarking, and networking are the only way to enrich and adapt this FA knowledge database.
Even strong and reliable, FA societies remain fragile facing a lot of societal issues like terrorism (2001), subprime crisis (2008), induced economic downturn and now sanitary issues (COVID19)! EDFAS is our community jewel, be in, be active to move forward and take advantages of all the shared and continuously extended contents!
Believe me; I have measured the large payback of any hour I have spent for FA societies! It has also been a huge friendship with EDFAS persons which has grown year after year. It gives me an even stronger feeling of belonging to this FA community. I wish EDFAS to continue this human and technical adventure. Thank you again!"
