Speaker's Gift Background

The Danforth Tankard, given to speakers at Hartford Chapter meetings, has a custom ASM Harford Chapter logo and was cast by Woodbury Pewterers, which was founded in 1952, in the town of Woodbury, CT. Each piece of Woodbury Pewter is hand-crafted from the highest quality pewter using many of the same methods and tools that were used in the 18th & 19th centuries.

A well know artificer, or cunning worker, of metals was Paul Revere of that midnight ride so famous in American history. Although Revere worked his craft in many metals, most notably silver and gold, pewter was by far the most common ware that he sold. That he was well respected in his profession was reflected by the response he created by that midnight ride on the evening of April 18, 1775. Paul took a northerly route to Lexington, arousing a militia that repelled the British with the shot that was heard around the world.

Less known is that another rider, William Dawes,  took a southerly route. Dawes, however, had no luck in rousing people from bed and finally joined up with Revere. The moral here is, if you have a revolutionary idea, with which you want to arouse the world, your best approach is to network with others in your profession. Join ASM International as a member of the Hartford Chapter.
