Materials Camp® is a hands-on opportunity
to learn about materials we see every
day in common objects and high-tech
applications. See how metals, ceramics,
plastics, and composites behave under
different circumstances. Materials Camp
combines short lectures with interactive
laboratory sessions, industry visits, and
an expo day and introduces high school
students to the possibility of a career in
materials engineering
Who Can Attend?
• Students entering their Sophomore, Junior or Senior year
in high school in the Fall of 2024.
• Students enrolled in math, science, and technology classes.
• Highly motivated, inquisitive learners with math and
science aptitudes
How Much?
• FREE! Camp is organized by the ASM Foundation,
Orange Coast Chapter, and UC Irvine.
• Sponsored by Element Materials Technology
Who Decides?
• This is a competitive application process. Applications
will be reviewed by members of ASM Orange Coast
Chapter and UC Irvine Materials Science and
Engineering Faculty.
• Students must have basic knowledge of algebra,
chemistry and physics, and describe why they want to
learn more about engineering and materials science as a
possible college major & career.
Where and when?
