The Los Angeles Chapter of ASM International presents Student Night, this year in person, on Tuesday, April 21, from 5 to 9 pm at UCLA (Engineering V). Please pass this information along to interested students.
We ask that the students summarize a technical presentation of their current or past research focused on Materials Science and Engineering or a similar topic in PowerPoint slides. Due to time limitations, we expect we might need to limit the number of entries. PowerPoint presentations (preferred), pdf’s, or abstracts should be submitted via portal below by Friday, March 27. Please contact asmlachapter@gmail.com if there are any issues with file uploads. The entries should include the (postal) mailing address of the presenter, and also indicate whether it is a graduate or undergraduate presentation, corresponding to the two judged divisions. (In the case of team projects, if there are one or more graduate students participating in the project, it will be judged in the graduate division). Students will be informed whether they can participate by Friday, April 3. RSVPs for all participants are needed by Tuesday, April 7.

To allow maximum participation, we plan to keep presentations short, allowing five minutes for presentation, followed by two minutes of questions. This is admittedly brief, but is the approximate time one might expect during an interaction at a poster presentation.
The judges will award first, second, and third prizes of $300, $200, and $100, respectively in each division (graduate and undergraduate), plus a People’s Choice Award of $100 in each division. Awards will also be granted to the prize winners of the high school metallography contest!
Thank PTI, Dennies Metallurgical Solutions and Cal Nano for providing the funds to support this event and enable us to provide student prizes!
