  •  Central Metallurgical Research and Development Institute (CMRDI), Egypt, April 1997 to November 1997, research assistant. Have been engaged in industrial and academic research on foundry operations and metal casting processes.
  • Cairo University, Department of Metallurgical Engineering, Egypt, December 1997 to April 2000, teaching assistant. Teaching assistants are assigned to these positions based on their high scores in the bachelor study.

  • Assist in teaching courses by guiding students in the exercise periods. The courses include Physical Metallurgy, Mechanical and Nondestructive Testing, Theory of Metallurgical Processes, Extractive Metallurgy, Welding-Casting and Solidification, Metal Forming, Computer Applications in Metallurgy (certificate of experience available upon request),

Job Description:

  • Design and perform several tests such as tensile, bend, hardness, and impact tests on steels and non-ferrous alloys,
  • Conduct microstructure and macrostructure studies,
  • Characterize and specify carbon and alloy steels, and
  • Perform several mechanical (tensile, hardness, impact and bending) and macroetch tests for Welding Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) and for Welder Certification according to international standards like ASME IX, AWS D1.1, API 1104.
  • Perfrom corrosion tests (ASTM G28 and G28) for the qualification of welding procedures of special alloys such as duplex stainless steels and Inconel alloys.
  • Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, TAMLA research group, February 2004 to August, 2005, post-doc, engaged in a research on the development of several industrial cast aluminum alloys used in automotive applications. My work at TAMLA was funded by General Motors, USA, Corporative Nemak, Mexico and the federal government of Canada and focused on:
    • Nucleation of phases in Al-Si-Fe alloys,
    • Gas injection of inclusions into Al alloys,
    • Influence of Bi and Ca additions on the solidification thermal parameters and the microporosity formation in the Al-Si-Cu alloys,
    • Effect of cooling rate, heat treatment and Mn and Sr additions on the microstructural characteristics and hardness of the Al-11Si-2.5Cu alloys,
    • Metallographic Observations of the b-AlFeSi Phase and its Role in Porosity Formation in Al-6%Si Alloys,
    • Metallographic Studies on the Intermetallic Phases in the Al-Si Near-Eutectic and Eutectic Alloys, and
    • Effect of Bi and Ca additions on the microstructural characteristics and tensile properties of Sr-modified, grain-refined B319 Al cast alloys.

  • Delivered large number of international training courses in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Kuwait, London, Istanbul, Karachi, Sour (Oman), since May 2013.
  • The training courses were given to the engineers, and technical staff of many international companies working in the Arabic Gulf area, such as oil and gas companies, cement companies, petrochemical companies, and governmental departments.     • This is a consultancy center with specialty in in metal manufacturing and treatments, welding, inspection and non-destructive testing according to international standards such as AWS, ASME, API and others.   • Dr Khalifa is NDT level II examiner in the following test methods: UT, RT, PT, MT, ET and VT. He is preparing for professional certification of level III in NDT according to the ASNT, late 2020.

  • Development of Computer–Aided Thermal Analysis System for Grain Size Prediction in Al-Si-Cu Alloys

Project (ID: 14902) funded by the Science and Technology Development Fund in Egypt (STDF, http://www.stdf.org.eg/), in which Dr Khalifa is the principal investigator. The total fund is ~ 500 000 LE over 24 months, finished in Feb 2020.

 (2) Synthesis of advanced ferrite and rare earth magnets

Project (ID: 14899) funded by the Science and Technology Development Fund in Egypt (STDF, http://www.stdf.org.eg/), in which Dr Khalifa is the principal investigator. The total fund is ~ 1000 000 LE over 24 months, finished in Nov. 2019.

  (3) "Earing of the 1050 Aluminum Alloys", 2006–May 2007.

The project was funded by the Aluminum Company of Egypt, and aimed at controlling the earing ratio of the deep drawn parts made of the 1050 alloy. I co-work with professor Rafaat El-Koussy from Cairo University and a team of the R/D personnel from the company.

  • Corrosion of Engineering Alloys Dec. 2006

The course was organized by the Spare Parts and Tribology Center-Cairo University, Dec. 2006. I gave two lectures on aluminum alloys and their designation system.

  • The Engines Factory –the Arabic Manufacturing Organization, Helwan Egypt, 1998. Participated in a course on Arc Welding Technology and the welding procedure qualification tests, with some applications on welding certain Al and austenitic stainless steel alloys.
  • Ezz Steel Company, winter 1999, participated in a course and workshop held at factory in the 6th October industrial city near to Cairo. Participated in several parts pertinent to the recent electric steel making technologies, steel billet continuous casting and the mechanical testing of steel reinforcement bars.
  • Assisted in a reformation course in Foundry Practice given to the technicians and engineers of a casting facility in Shubra Al-Khaymah at the north of Cairo. My role was to show the charge calculations and how the alloy chemistry could be controlled based on the available materials and master alloys. I also participated in a workshop on the design of gating and risering systems.

(F) Engaging in some consultation works related to manufacturing of some drilling equipment components and heat treatments.
