Presentation Abstract:
This presentation will review the status of research funding and the various technical & foundry-centric projects those funds support. Additionally, updates for some government-funded projects through AMC (American Metalcasting Consortium), America Makes, and others will be briefed. The various technology transfer services evolving at the American Foundry Society will be described; and finally, questions will be fielded on the full array of happenings at the American Foundry Society.

Brian Began is the Vice President of Metalcasting Technical Services at AFS. Prior to joining AFS in October 2021, Brian fulfilled a variety of roles at Foseco in Cleveland, OH. Employment at Foseco preceded an assignment as the Business Development Manager – Education at ASM International in Materials Park, OH. Additional experiences within the foundry industry include CWRU’s experimental foundry, Ford Motor Company’s Cleveland Casting Plant, and Element Materials Technology in suburban Detroit, MI. Brian graduated from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) with a bachelor’s degree in Materials Science & Engineering and completed his MBA from the Graduate School at Ashland University.
