POSITION MISSION AND DESCRIPTION

The Materials Education Coordinator leads the development and delivery of educational outreach programs that promote awareness and understanding of materials science and engineering. This role is ideal for someone passionate about STEM education and community engagement, with a talent for translating complex scientific concepts into accessible and inspiring learning experiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and coordinate educational activities, workshops, and demonstrations for K–12 students, educators, and the public.

Develop and maintain outreach materials, including presentations, hands-on kits, and digital content.

Collaborate with local schools, libraries, museums, and community organizations to schedule and deliver programs.

Recruit and train volunteers to assist with outreach events.

Evaluate program effectiveness and gather feedback for continuous improvement.

Promote events through newsletters, social media, and the chapter website.

SKILLS NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

Strong communication and presentation skills.

Experience working with youth or in educational settings is a plus.

Creative, organized, and enthusiastic about science outreach.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

REQUIRMENTS

ASM Membership is required

Background in materials science, engineering, or a related STEM field (students welcome).

LOCATION

Hybrid

TIME COMMITMENT

5-10 hours per month
