Purpose:
The Emerging Technologies Awareness Committee advises and alerts the Board of Trustees, other relevant committees, and the ASM membership about emerging technologies, as well as about global trends and developments in materials, commerce, government, societal perceptions, and education that may have significant impact on the ASM membership or society operations. ETAC will generate annual programming for IMAT in areas of emerging technologies. It will regularly provide surveys identifying new technologies, as well as recommend new products and services for ASM.

Products and Services Committee is Responsible for:
Symposia on emerging technologies presented at the ASM Annual Conference; reports on emerging technologies updated and presented to the ASM Board; news items and feature articles in Advanced Materials & Processes Magazine.

Qualifications of Members:
People from a variety of industries, academia, and research laboratories. Involvement in R&D related to new technologies.

Committee Size:
Approx. 15-25 members

Time Commitment:
Time commitment can vary depending on roles. General expectation is 2-4 hours per month; more when special projects arise.

Term:

New members are appointed for a one-year term, with the opportunity for active members to be reappointed for a two-year term. Officers usually serve two-year terms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Keep Board and ASM membership updated on latest materials developments.
  • Develop programming for ASM annual conference
  • Advise ASM on opportunities for new products and services.

Support of Committee Activities:

ASM Staff Liaison will provide an orientation and information prior to the beginning term date of September 1st annually. In addition, the Staff Liaison participates as committee secretary and is an active partner in all meetings and activities of the committee.
