Purpose:
The purpose of the AeroMat Organizing Committee is to bring together the generators and users of information to meet the needs of ASM members as it relates to the global aerospace community by providing vision, leadership and resources for technical programming at ASM; primarily AeroMat.  The information is to be technically relevant, timely, cutting edge technology, materials and processes. The AeroMat Organizing Committee shall support the ASM Strategic Plan and be accountable and responsible for those strategic actions which fall within the purview of the committee.  It shall also be the responsibility of the committee to contribute new program and service ideas that support the ASM Strategic Plan.  The AeroMat Committee will also support programming at ASM’s Annual Event IMAT.

The intent of AeroMat is to provide the aerospace community with a venue where timely technical information is shared and a collaborative environment is created for the exchange of information on all aerospace materials and processes.

Intent is to create some AeroMat leadership awards

Committee Size:

Up to 20

  • Officers (General Chair, Vice General Chair, Technical Program Chair, Immediate Past Chair) will serve a 1 year term in each of these rolls and then continue to serve out their term as a member of the committee. The year you serve in one of these positions does not count against your term.
  • Member (defined as a core, voting member of the Committee with a specific role or topic area they are responsible for fulfilling) – 3 year term
  • Member at Large Defined as an appointed member without voting privileges. Designed to serve as an additional technical expert to the Committee. Unlimited term with the possibility of being nominated for reappointment  for one more 3 year term.
  • Board Liaison – term is determined by the Board of Trustees

Time Commitment:
(1) face-to-face meetings; one to take place during AeroMat in the May/June time frame AeroMat meeting is approximately 4 hours in length.  Winter meeting would most likely be an all day planning meeting virtual.


Monthly one hour telecons to take place beginning in July and continuing up to the next year’s event.

Additional hours required as needed to fulfill your role on the committee.

Term Duration: 

1-2 year commitment depending on the position you hold on the Committee

  The AeroMat Organizing Committee succession plan is:

  • General Chair selects the Technical Program Chair for that year.
  • Technical Program Chair becomes Vice General Chair for 1 year
  • Vice General Chair becomes General Chair for 1 year
General Chair becomes Immediate Past General Chair for 1 year and then serves out the remainder of his /her term.
