Is there an application for SMAs that you would like to see more research or discussions? Or do you have an off-the-wall (i.e. out of the box) ideas that would be interesting to re-engineer SMAs into?

Feel free to speculate, to offer incomplete thoughts or even to promote your own (and/or your student's) research involving case studies!

    Thanks,

If I need a high temperature SMA for an 800-850 °C application, am I out of luck? Many PtTi, PdTi, HEAs, multicomponent don't survive more than a few cycles. Nitinol is great, but it can't do everything for us….

Very good point. High working temperatures above 800°C would, intuitively, require ceramics or alloys composed of heavier metals. Ceramic may not meet the mechanical requirements for shape memory alloy applications (tension/torsion loads), on the other hand heavier metals may be a challenging option in terms of cost or processing.

Possibilities are still there! Thanks for your input.
