Hi Andre,
Your description of the ITSC is "funny", but correct. The ITSC is a like a "family meeting". The thermal spray community is small in size, but it punches well above its weight. Basically all the main players will be there, i.e., the "who is who" from industry, academia and government. It is like a Formula 1 race weekend, with the drivers, teams and sponsors (but organized once a year).
So... the thermal spray glitterati will be there.
Consequently, there is no better place to create, growth and maintain your networking than attending the ITSC, as well as, being a TSS volunteer. And networking is the master key that opens the opportunity doors.
And for sure people will be very eager for this coming ITSC, because our last face-to-face event was held in 2019.
And "yes"... I will be attending the ITSC 2022.
And I look forward to seeing you there, and the rest of the family too.
I wish you the best of luck in the Young Professionals session.
Cheers!

Subject: Community Discussion - Are you attending ITSC 2022 ?
Hello everyone ! A bit of an ice breaker approach here, but with ITSC 2022 approaching and conferences being a great opportunity to meet the thermal spray "family" (as I often fondly hear it described), I was thinking it could be a good idea to create some connections before attending the conference and spur additional motivation to reach out on site or to visit one another's talks and/or booths.
I gather that many may not be able to attend due to various circumstances throughout the world, but feel free to also join this discussion and we can build connections offline or more locally. Feel free to share with your peers, colleagues or students to make the most of it !
On my side, I'm a research associate with Prof. Moreau at Concordia, recently graduated from McGill after having worked with cold-spray on carbon fiber composite substrates. At ITSC 2022, I'll be presenting at the Young Professional's session some of my latest PhD work on the adhesion of tin coatings on composites with various surface finishes. These days I'm expanding my scope to a variety of thermal spraying techniques and materials, and I'm quite enthusiastic to discover more of what the community has to offer !
