When:  Jan 5, 2022 from 18:30 to 20:30 (ET)

Dr. David Furrer, Pratt & Whitney

Join us for a reprise and more in-depth virtual meeting and networking!

Please RSVP!

Abstract

Engineered materials will enable the future of advanced system architectures and component designs. Join us for a discussion on materials development to meet evolving product requirements such as cost, performance, manufacturability, durability, and recyclability. Materials definitions are migrating from simple empirical mechanical property data and design curves to processing path and microstructure-based models for both legacy and emerging materials. We’ll talk about machine learning, materials informatics, and data capture, as well as the linkages between engineering disciplines contributing to this expanding field.

About the speaker

Dr. David Furrer is Senior Fellow Discipline Lead for the Materials and Processes Engineering organization at Pratt & Whitney where he leads the development of technical strategies, engineering standards, and new materials and associated manufacturing processes, including computational tools and methods and additive manufacturing process development. Prior to Pratt & Whitney, David held leadership roles at Rolls-Royce and Ladish Co., Inc. (now ATI Forged Products). He is a Fellow and Past President of ASM International and is a member of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering. David has a Bachelors and Masters degrees in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Doctorage of Engineering from the Universität Ulm, Germany.
