Executive Director - New Product Development, ASM International
ASM International has recently launched a new and innovative product line called the Data Ecosystem that will arm ASM Members and the scientific community with the tools and data required to exponentially expand the boundaries of materials science to meet the needs of Industry 4.0.
The impact that Industry 4.0, with interconnected cyber-physical systems, has on our materials, engineering, and manufacturing capabilities needs, has thrust advanced materials-related modeling and curated, high-quality materials data into the spotlight for many ASM members. Materials 4.0 represents those increased expectations of the Industry 4.0 world in which we all operate. This more predictive side of engineering and optimization is affecting new materials development, functional and mechanical design, manufacturing, supply chain, and sustainability in ways the STEM community would have thought not possible even a few decades ago. ASM International has developed the Data Ecosystem over the past two years, addressing the need for better products, created and manufactured more cost effectively, and launched more quickly.
This webinar will give an overview of the really big problem ASM has tackled with our membership in elevating member capabilities and addressing member needs, with a heightened emphasis around three key data and analytics related disciplines:
- Uncertainty Quantification
- Machine Learning
- Data Management
Our objective for this webinar is to show you a few
typical - and as you might expect -
complicated problems that can be solved with the first four new products in our release 1 of the Data Ecosystem, and how some initial interoperability and synergy exists already with those products. To wrap up, we'll show you how we intend to grow that synergy – to truly create
exponential impact for our members and stakeholders as we add new data, new tools, and new courses to our portfolio.
Speaker Bio
Ray Fryan joined ASM after a 37 year career with The Timken Company and TimkenSteel Corporation, serving in technology, manufacturing, quality, and business development leadership roles, the most recent of which was as Vice President of Technology and Quality. Ray's ICME vision led to the creation and development of an ICME-capable team who created innovative new products - including ultra-pure fatigue resistant clean steels, and an award-winning family of high strength/high toughness alloys. As Executive Director of New Product Development, Ray brings that experience, leadership, and vision to enhance and expand ASM International's product offerings.
Ray is a graduate of Grove City College, and completed both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Material Science and Engineering at Case Western Reserve University. A native of northeast Ohio, and a Jackson Township resident, Ray's family includes his wife of 39 years, Peggy; two grown children, RJ (Laura) and Brigitte (Chris), and 5 grandchildren. Ray enjoys woodworking, non-competitive golf, and competitive distance running; he has finished 13 Boston Marathon events, including 7 with his daughter Brigitte. When she finishes grad school, Ray looks forward to the privilege of training and competing with her in future Boston Marathons
