    Hello Everyone,I need guidance regarding the nitriding.The product is a Rice Mill Screen.I have attached a Picture for your reference.

    Material Stainless Steel 430

    1.Surface Hardness 1000Hv at 100 grams
    2.Case Depth 150 Micron
    3.Uniform layer of Nitriding (Most Important)
    4. 5 -7 Micron Compound Layer (White Layer)
    5. Aluminium Finish (Grey Color) or Black Finish
    Please suggest which is the most suitable nitriding process for the same. Whether we should opt for liquid , Gas, Low Pressure Gas or Plasma Nitriding.

    The Liquid Nitrocarburizing will not be suitable as the layer thickness of 10 to 15 microns compound zone will not take up abrasive wear effectively.

    Gas Nitriding or plasma Nitriding will the ideal choice to meet your requirements.But care should to taken to remove the passive layer prior to nitriding .

    Hello Mr. Aggarwal;

    Hardide Coatings has the capability of coating fine mesh screen using our CVD coating technology.  If you are willing, we may be able to apply a 0.002" thick layer of W/WC on to the screen for erosion / corrosion resistance.  Our hardness is typically in the 1,300 - 1,400Hv range if that suits your needs.

    Please contact me if you would like to discuss further:  mhanania@hardide.com

    I have had trouble getting a black oxide finish to adhere to a nitrided surface. There are proprietary "black nitriding" processes that create the black surface layer as part of the process. But I have limited experience with this and would love to hear from others about getting a black finish on nitrided product.
