Hello Everyone,

Can anyone guide me about the difference in the structure and material properties of the coatings obtained from the flame spray process by using propane as the fuel gas instead of acetylene?

Given the higher oxygen input that is required for spraying with propane, I know that deposited coatings tend to have more oxides. I am looking for some quantitative data and I would appreciate it if you could introduce me some resources or share your personal experience with me. Thank you very much.

You may also wish to contact Alamo Supply Co. (USA). They manufacture a flame-spray torch (Alamo PG550); which can work with acetylene, hydrogen and propane (http://www.alamosupply.net/PG-550Materials.pdf).

All things being equal, I think electrically heated air or nitrogen would be best for heating polymer particles.  One wouldn't be limited to specific flame temperatures.

Propane in air 1980 °C 
Acetylene in air 2550 °C 
You may see clearly the difference btwn flame temperatures of both. 
You will get more un-melted particles in the coating of high melting feedstocks using Propane. However, oxide content will be less. 
I have next generation Wire-High Velocity oxy fuel gun "HIJET", that produces very dense coatings using wires.
