  • 1.  Induction Heat Treatment Testing Lab

    Posted 01-08-2026 12:00

We process our steel by induction heat treatment and then use a polymer based quenchant. The induction heat process is very short at approximately 7 to 9 seconds max. We need to quench very quickly from the heat treatment area to our quench tanks with a travel time of 1 to 2 seconds max. We are looking to a lab that is familiar with induction heat treatment and rapid quenching to validate parts on a as need basis. We have used some mechanical testing labs in the past but their knowledge on induction heat treatment is usually limited. So, I am reaching out to others who perform induction heat treatment and quenching to maybe steer us to a lab that has knowledge in our specific field of heat treatment.

    Hi Rodney,

What type of validation testing are you looking to do?

    Best,

What kind of guidance are you looking for?  Is this related to a microstructure or hardness range?  Feel free to reach out and I can help out.

    Good Day Rodney,

This is Robert from Fuji-Denshi US. We offer complete induction and metallurgical services including x-ray diffraction. Might be of interest to see what the simulation model can predict for you as well.  It is kind of a first step if the water is a bit muddy. If you are well on your way to needing to make parts with induction, we can get you on the schedule.

    Best, Robert

    Hi Rodney,

I'm a retired Boeing R&D engineer. I developed the induction process that converted actuation gears from carburize to induction. I'm well familiar with very short heat times, rapid quench and the metallography techniques. I don't have a lab. I would be happy to work with you. Reach out to me if you are interested. Best of luck.

    Best Regards,

    Matt

    Hello Rodney,

Thanks for posting to the Heat Treat Society forum. If you are still looking for assistance, we would be happy to help.

We are a U.S.-based induction heating equipment manufacturer headquartered in Madison Heights, Michigan, Our primary area of work is induction heat treatment for automotive OEMS and suppliers. We maintain a fully equipped in-house induction laboratory supporting metallurgical prototyping, process development, advanced FEA induction computer modeling, and validation of time-critical induction processes.

Short heat cycles and polymer-based quenching systems are conditions we routinely address.

If there is value in comparing approaches or discussing how we can assist, I'd be glad to continue the conversation offline.

    Rodney-

ASM's Heat Treating Society features a Heat Treating Buyers Guide online. You can input key words such as "induction testing" and find possible vendors. I hope this helps. Try it here:
