Dave Furrer, FASM, who is a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), Section 9 - Materials Engineering, mentioned that there is an upcoming NAE virtual event that may be of interest to our IMS members. See details below. This online mini-symposium is free.
Advanced Materials and Component Characterization Methods
Date/Time: Tuesday, May 12, 2026, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. EDT
Characterization of materials and components is vital to understanding their capabilities. This could involve constituent, phase or stress state evaluation and quantification. There are emerging technologies that are being applied to real-world applications that provide greater insight into the make-up, stability and mechanisms that provide desired engineering performance. There are a number of National Lab-based methods that require unique energy source facilities and others that are being transitioned to industrial and academic laboratories. This mini-symposium will highlight some of these recent advances in materials and component characterization.
