Event Title: The Use of EDS for QA and FA within Production Processes
Anthony Hyde, EDS Product Manager
Dr. Matt Hiscock, Head of Product Science
When people ask for a simple solution to their problem, they are often, in practice, asking for a complicated solution that is simple to use. This is especially true for quality assurance (QA) and failure analysis (FA) applications within production facilities, where many of those performing analyses may not be experts in the techniques involved. In these settings, results need to be acquired quickly and be accurate and reliable, because there is often a production line on hold, waiting for an answer. The jobs carried out may determine the provenance of contaminants or investigate the failure mechanism of a delaminated coating-ideal jobs for using energy dispersive x-ray analysis (EDS) in a scanning electron microscope (SEM) but the system must be accessible and easy to use. The workflow could involve a simple spectrum acquisition, or a more complex automated particle analysis run. But whatever the analysis, the process must be logical and easy to follow.
In this webinar, the speakers will discuss various QA and FA investigations that are ideal for SEM-EDS. They will also discuss the software and hardware required to deliver these application solutions with reference to multiple examples.
In this webinar, attendees will learn:
Anthony Hyde graduated with a B.Sc. in physics and has worked in the field of electron microscopy for the past 33 years, 21 of which have been with Oxford Instruments. He currently works as an EDS product manager, where he helps design, develop, and market new EDS software and hardware. A significant part of his time is spent speaking to users to find out what their applications are and what they really need from an EDS system.
Dr. Matt Hiscock holds an M.Sc. in geology from Bristol University and a Ph.D. in geochemistry from Edinburgh University. He worked in the mining industry in Australia as well and has helped run an academic SEM facility focusing on geological analyses. Matt oversees Oxford's particle analysis products and works globally on applications-working to understand our customers' needs and showing how Oxford products can assist them.
