HIGH PRIORITY ISSUE: Issue of Sending Katz Scholarship Check Directly to Student vs. Indirectly to School
• In the past, scholarship checks have been sent by the Chapter directly to the students because of a belief that the students would be penalized by the school with regard to financial assistance.
• There has been a concern expressed about the legality of sending checks directly to students.
• Decide whether to (1) continue past practice of sending checks directly to students, (2) switch to sending checks indirectly to schools, or (3) seek to clarify legality of sending directly to students.
HIGH PRIORITY ISSUE: Historical Metallurgy Virtual Webinar Series
Rooney: Settled on Thursday, September 2nd at 12pm EDT for talk by Dr. Oudbashi and Dr. Wanhill. Headshots, abstracts, and bios have been obtained.
Rooney: Proposing Thursday September 23rd to Dr. Carrizo. Once she confirms, we can formally schedule it. Her information is also obtained.
Wingens: proposed to contact Prof. Annika Borgenstam , KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden, for talk on history of bainite.

Future Virtual Webinar Series
If the Historical Metallurgy Virtual Webinar Series is successful, then we will likely try it again with a different topic.
Also, we can consider soliciting a named sponsor to offset the costs/efforts by the Chapter
Future In-Person Events
During July 8th call, there was a consensus that the Chapter should attempt in-person meetings in the fall.
In light of the delta variant, should we reconsider whether to attempt in-person events in the fall? Will the rebound in COVID prevent us from getting to a threshold level of attendance necessary for holding valuable in-person meetings?
If we don't hold in-person meetings, can we still organize in-person tours?
Howard Katz and Steven Fyfitch both provided lists of potential events for the Chapter to consider?
To proceed with any event, I require one member of the Pittsburgh Chapter to spearhead each event.
Young Members Night
Young Members Night was successful in 2021.
To proceed with the YMN event in 2022, I require one member of the Pittsburgh Chapter to volunteer to coordinate with the student YMN committee, particularly providing oversight regarding the costs of the event to the Chapter.
