Purpose:
The Technical Books Committee shall foster the development of excellence in ASM books by identifying worthwhile technical areas, suggesting subjects and authors, and recommending improvements in the published works. The Technical Books
The committee shall support the ASM Strategic Plan and be accountable for strategic actions within its purview. The committee shall also contribute new program and service ideas that support the Strategic Plan.
The committee is responsible for technical book-type content published by ASM International. The product is both printed and electronic. Technical books are distinguished from handbooks and conference books in that they are generally authored by one or a small group of authors on a specific topic. They are often produced under agreement with the author for pay or royalty, as opposed to handbooks that are volunteer efforts.
Qualifications of Members:
Member: An ASM member who can bring technical expertise and knowledge of ASM member content needs to the TBC. Members do not need to be technical authors, but some experience with writing, publishing, or reviewing articles within their organization or other technical societies is beneficial.
Members are expected to review proposals, assist in prioritizing content needs within ASM, locate content contributors, and participate in teleconference meetings and the Annual meeting as they are able. Typically, they should be willing to spend approximately 1- 2 hours per month on TBC activities.
Vice Chair: A member of TBC who has exhibited leadership skills, has been an active member of the committee and is willing and able to devote roughly up to 5 hours per month to Committee activities.
