The Women in Materials Engineering Committee has recently expanded its scope and changed its name to the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Awareness (IDEA) Committee. We have four subcommittees that include (1) Women in Materials Engineering; (2) Retention of Diversity in Materials Engineering; (3) LGBTQ+ in Materials Engineering, and (4) Underrepresented Minorities (URM) in Materials Engineering. Members of these subcommittees work closely together, and our efforts and foci often overlap. Each subcommittee also has the freedom to explore specific activities and efforts that support the diverse needs of our ASM members.
We are seeking leaders and members for our expanded efforts that address the needs of our underrepresented minority and historically marginalized community membership. We welcome individuals of all genders and race to join us in identifying and prioritizing activities, events, research, and sharing of knowledge. We are seeking an individual to lead the underrepresented minority subcommittee. If you are interested in joining (even if you are not keen on being the subcommittee chair) we welcome your input and involvement!

1 sub-committee chair: Chair to lead the URM subcommittee and report to the IDEA committee chair
3 – 5 volunteers: General committee members to attend URM meetings and help with specific, defined tasks throughout the year. Examples include, but not limited to, planning webinars, planning conference events, development of outreach activities and other events
