    What do you think the future will be in AI in failure analysis ?

     

    Do you think that today, AI can be helpful to a metallurgical specialist?

    I can see where an AI service could help an analyst to manage a project, record data, suggest order of testing steps, next step, keep audio notes and transcribe them. If it can interact with computers that are running equipment, like a microscope or even a polisher, it could document what was done, all of the data, highlight data. It could be useful, in time as AI tools mature. Such a thing, if incomplete or made poorly, could as easily be a hindrance to the field. IMHO.

    Liz Holm at Carnegie Mellon has been working on this for years. When I was there her group concentrated on microstructures, but I think they may have expanded to some fractography.
