I would recommend reading Fruehan's article in the ISS Transactions from August 1997. His conclusions were to vacuum degas the heat and shroud the pour. After forging, cool to transform all austenite and then reheat to allow diffusion. The sulfur range should be kept as high as possible while still achieving mechanical properties required in the finished product.
