Since my company is in the business of providing materials analysis solutions, equipment and consumables I would be interested in knowing where members go for solutions and equipment? (How do you avoid going to the same provider not knowing what other options are available out there.)

    Neal,
When looking at new equipment, I will reach out to colleagues at suppliers and universities to see what they have.  I also try to get to a conference with a show to see a bunch of different suppliers all at once.  Also, old school buying guides come in handy where I can find them.

I get most of my metallurgical prep equipment from Struers. It is convenient because I only need to work with one company for preventative maintenance services and things of that nature. Other companies offer similar services, so the strategy isn't limited to Struers, of course. But I do like Struers equipment and have found it to be dependable.
