Now through the end of August, the Metallography, Microstructure, and Analysis review article "Laser Welding Titanium to Magnesium Alloys: Influence of the Welding Parameters on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties-A Review" by Hesamedin Ayati and Homam Naffakh-Moosavy is free access for you to download and read. Joining dissimilar alloys of magnesium and titanium through welding has gained significant attention in recent years, especially in the automotive, aerospace, and medical industries, owing to the need for lightweight components and improved energy efficiency. However, joining these two alloys presents substantial challenges due to their disparate properties, such as melting point differences and the mutual insolubility of titanium and magnesium. Various joining methods have been explored, with the most promising approach involving the use of an intermediate element to establish a metallurgical bond. This paper reviews the research and advancements in joining magnesium to titanium alloys and provides recommendations for improving these joints.
