We are setting up a new R&D lab in PA and we like to know some good recommendations on what type/brand of fume hood to purchase. This fume hood will be used for making up etching solutions and could be a ducted or ductless unit. Thanks

    Marc -

It really is a function of the amount of time and volume of etchants you plan to use.

If using small surface-area (<1cm^2) samples in beakers <500mL once or twice a day,

    then you can easily use:

    ACI Plus! Carbon Filter
    ~$160@

    FUME-BOX Series Ductless Fume Hood,
    Configurable as Horizontal or
    Vertical Flow Version, 115V 60Hz
~$1400   from https ductless DOT com   from "Air Science"
Also, they sell direct and have many distributers.
However, if  you plan to continuously etch daily and go with
a ducted fumehood, then I have witnessed ducted installations
upwards of $100K once EHS, architects, purchase agents, and
    HVAC contractors get involved.
Save yourself a headache, and get an acid vapor detector from
    Forensics (~$500-$1000).
    regards,
    - Jim
