Hello Eli,
You will need to answer the following questions when you are specifying a box furnace:
1. What will the furnace be used for?
a. Heat treatment of steel in air
b. Heat treatment off steel in controlled carbon potential
c. Austenitizing of steel (hardening) with or without quenching capability
d. Bright annealing or other non-carbon controlled atmospheres (brazing or stress relief)
d. Tempering or austenitizing/tempering
e. Materials processin
f. Vacuum treatment or reduced pressure
g. Others
2. Source of Heat
a. Natural gas or propane
b. Electricity (resistance, plasma etc)
3. Product Containment
a. Can the product come in contact with products of combustion?
b. Ceramic brick containment
c. Metallic retort (hot)
d. Metallic retort (cold walls)
4. Gas Circulation required?
5. Furnace Controls and Sensor Required
a. Need for carbon potential sensors (dew point, oxygen sensors)
b. Vacuum monitoring
6. Loading and Unloading Provisions
These are some of the important considerations.
