Abstract: The topic of this webinar presentation is an introductory summary of industrial failure analysis. The general reasons to perform a failure analysis will be reviewed and the primary ways that things fail will be referenced. A basic outline for standard industrial investigations will be presented and discussed. Several case study examples of industrial failure analysis will be presented at length to show how failure analyses may be structured and performed. The analyst thought processes and general strategies for failure analysis will be discussed within these case studies.
Speaker: Brett Miller is the Technical Director of IMR Metallurgical Services in Louisville, Kentucky. Brett has 40 years of metallurgical engineering and failure analysis experience. He has performed thousands of metallurgical failure analysis investigations and material evaluations. Brett holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology, and a Master of Science Degree in Materials Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in several states and is a Certified Welding Inspector. Brett is the current President of the ASM International Failure Analysis Society.
