Engineering Your Future - Innovative Research in Foundry Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Warsaw U. of Technology
The presentation introduces the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) and its Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, a leading Polish center for materials science and manufacturing. It highlights the Division of Metal Forming and Foundry Engineering, which integrates experimental metallurgy, computational modeling, and additive manufacturing to develop advanced metallic materials.
Key research focuses on heat treatment of cast iron alloys, especially optimizing microstructure evolution during austempering and bainitic transformations. Percolation theory is used to model diffusion pathways and phase continuity, supporting the design of alloys with improved mechanical and functional properties.
Additional work includes pressure die casting with 3D-printed molds and conformal cooling to improve heat transfer, shorten cycle times, and increase dimensional accuracy, as well as ultrasonic atomization to produce high-quality metallic powders for additive manufacturing.
SPEAKER:
Dawid Myszka, Associate Professor at WUT, specializes in microstructure design of cast and wrought alloys, including ADI, bainitic steels, and hybrid nanostructured materials. His research examines deformation-induced transformations, phase kinetics, and structure–property relationships. He leads national and international projects such as NewAIMS and NANODI and has published over 100 scientific works. His contributions support the development of high-performance materials for energy, transportation, and manufacturing industries.
