The next meeting of the ASM Residual Stress Technical Committee (RSTC) will include a talk by Gary Styger on "Residual Stress and Distortion from Machining," based on the chapter that Gary contributed to the new ASM Handbook, Volume 25A, Residual Stress Fundamentals. The online meeting will be held:

    ASM Residual Stress Technical Committee
Wednesday, April 15, 2026, 2:00 pm US EDT

Anyone with an interest in residual stress technology is welcome to attend the meeting. To request the online Zoom link, please contact scott.henry@asminternational.org

Gary Styger, CEng, MIMechE, M.Phil, is a Senior Engineering Specialist in finite element analysis (FEA) at Triz Engineering Services, with over 18 years of experience in mechanical design, FEA, and residual stress measurement and prediction. He is the vice chair of the RSTC and a member of ASTM Subcommittee E28.13 on Residual Stress Measurement. Styger is a contributing author to several articles in ASM Handbook, Volume 25A: Residual Stress Fundamentals (2025). His research interests span computational mechanics, physical metallurgy, and both numerical and experimental approaches to residual stress characterization. He is currently completing a part-time doctorate in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Johannesburg. Prior to Triz Engineering, he held positions at Simutron and Weir Minerals.
