Abstract:

The 20th anniversary of the collapse of buildings 1, 2, and 7 of the World Trade Center was last September.  An exhaustive examination was undertaken to determine the factors that contributed to the collapse, initially by FEMA and then by NIST. Dave Kovarik will review the non-destructive and destructive testing of samples from the NIST analysis, which were primarily from Building 1, followed by George Vander Voort’s review of the metallurgical evaluation he did for FEMA on samples from Buildings 1 and 7. Jaren Stidd will conclude the presentation with a brief discussion of the timeline of the collapse as modeled by NIST and their conclusions.
